Design in Depth: Art, Fabrics and More

Last week I had the pleasure of spending a day with new products and art at the Wakefield Design Center (also home to Wakefield Design Group) in Stamford, Connecticut. Some time ago, interior designer Carey Karlan told me what a great resource this is, and not just because she has an office there. I was immediately struck by the incredible collection of abstract original art, some by local Connecticut artists.

Owner George Snead noticed how I marveled over this artist’s work and immediately began to tell me about him and other artists.

Before my visit, I had thought of the design center as a place for furniture, fabrics and trim, but I was instantly casing the joint for vases, lamps and accessories for myself and for New England Home photo shoots.

That day, Wakefield Design Center was also a learning center as speakers such as Dennis Reck introduced a new Martyn Lawrence-Bullard fabric line by Schumacher. My colleague Kyle Hoepner mentioned more about this aspect of the event in his post last week.
