Sneak Peek: Nautical and Nice

Robert Hay and Kathleen Hay’s top-to-bottom renovation of a small Nantucket house puts the bottom on the top. The Hays converted the second-floor master bedroom into a kitchen so that the whole family could enjoy the adjoining deck space and surrounding views; the first floor now consists of two bedrooms that open onto the lawn. The whole house carries the feeling of being on a ship, with porthole mirrors on the walls and a set of ship’s stairs connecting the three floors.
