Pitch Dark
January 9, 2015
By Cheryl Katz
Beginning to trend in 2015, right up there with cauliflower and gray hair, is the darkly painted room. Charcoal, midnight, coal, forest—the darker the color, the better. And not just on the walls. Ceilings and trim, once strictly reserved for a coat of crisp, clean white, are fodder. Black window mullions? Never looked better.
Maybe it’s the frigid temperature or a desire to nest after the holiday season, but this deep dark palette wraps a room like a well- loved blanket. But lest that sound dreary, rest assured that a dark room can be quite glamorous. And it shows off stuff really well.
So go ahead, roast cauliflower til it’s edges turn brown, indulge in a few silver streaks (or go au natural) and paint a room pitch dark. You’ll be ahead of the curve.
