Notes from the Field: Pretty as a Portrait
February 28, 2011

In today's modern home, a painted portrait is not as common a sight as it once was. My home, however, is an exception because my husband is a portrait painter. Portraits on canvas can breathe life into a room and create a timeless presence within. Art is always the element I am most attracted to in any home. Occasionally, during my scouting journeys, I may enter a room where a painted portrait hangs; it always commands the space. I love the surprise of a historic portrait in this modern room; the contrast is very exciting.

And I can't help but mention a favorite painting of mine: my son, Skylar Brent, painted by my husband, artist Michael Brent.
