Leslie Fine: Five Must Have Accessories from Newbury Street
April 16, 2013
Newbury Street in Boston ranks as one of the premiere shopping streets in the country. It is a community that encompasses fashion, museum-quality art, specialty boutiques, business services, fine dining and so much moreâŚall set in a rich, historical district with an electric atmosphere. Amid these wonderful destinations you’ll find numerous home accessory shops offering items you just can’t live without!
Once furniture is installed in a home, itâs the surprising little touches that add personality and style to a room and ultimately make it yours. Accessories make all the difference, and the key to a good accessory is one that adds individuality to your room.

Here are five fabulous accessories that my team and I found on Newbury Street:
I love this corkscrew & wine stopper collection from Society of Arts and Crafts Boston, by artist Gordon Gladstone from Sharon, Mass. The store supports local artists and has some unique accessories.
Something old can be still be now! These antique Malachite glass pieces from Brodney Antiques & Jewelry are certainly trendy, sporting the 2013 color of the year, Emerald. On their website, Pantone describes the color as “Lively. Radiant. Lush⌠A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.” This description perfectly fits our unique find in an antique shop that would dress up any bookshelf.Â
BeoTime has transformed the humble alarm clock has with remarkable and unobtrusive design and surprisingly practical features like a universal remote control, clock, alarm, shade control, remotely operates the bedroom gogglebox, home theater set and light controls too. The alarm clock, at Bang & Olufsen, was inspired by Mozartâs opera The Magic Flute.
End tables are always tricky to find and these Nixon end tables have a classic Jonathan Alder geometric pattern that would create a point of interest in your space. The top is reversible; brushed brass finish comes in walnut laminate/colored laminate top, while the polished nickel comes in a white laminate/colored laminate top. Jonathan Adlerâs motto is âIf your heirs wonât fight over it, we wonât make it.â
So this one is not exactly a home acessory, but it can certainly make a difference in the way your bathroom looks: The Art of Shaving‘s plated nickel shaving set is infinitely more attractive than the run-of-the-mill plastic razor. Plus, women put beautiful accessories on their bathroom countertops, why not add this special and functional accessory for your man? The handles are solid nickel and laser-engraved for a non-slip grip. The brush is made of silver tip badger hair, a tradition of high end shaving brushes that can be traced back to France during the 1750s. The razor takes Fusion Gillette blades, making refilling easy.
