Julieann Covino: Dreaming of Summer Days with Duralee & Alfred Shaheen
March 8, 2011
Last week I had the great privilege of attending the Design Bloggers Conference out in California where New England Home was one of the sponsors. When they asked me to write a second guest post here I knew exactly what the topic would be: Duralee Fabrics has the perfect cure to my sunny California withdrawal in their Suburban Home introduction of Alfred Shaheen’s indoor fabric line. Last year they unveiled the Shaheen indoor/outdoor Surf ‘n Sand collection, which was full of “fun at the beach†Hawaiian patterns. Anyone with the nickname “King of the Aloha Shirt†has to be a good time, right? Well, these patterns surely depict that feeling!

These are a few images from the outdoor collection. Any of the above fabrics would quickly chase away the remnants of winter’s gray scene, which is currently outside my window! They would also encourage me to throw deck parties every weekend!
In April, the indoor line will be introduced with three books named Big Sur Designs, Copacabana and Abbey Road–doesn’t it sound like an instant party? I am so excited to give you a sneak peek at a few images Duralee sent over for me to share.
While you wait for Duralee to release these indoor fabrics, pop on over to Alfred Sheehen’s Web site to learn about the classic textile designer’s past and how his designs have influenced the fabrics of today! Then mix up a piña colada, sit back and daydream of sunny summer days to come!
