Gretchen Aubuchon: Fashion and Decor

Is there a connection between fashion and home decor? Now I am biased on this subject, as my entire blog is devoted to exploring the connections between the two, but I honestly don’t think there could be much argument about it.

It is an unwritten rule that what happens on the runways finds its way into the home…eventually. Collections shown on the runway kick off fashion trends, and these trends tend to make their way into the home within six to twelve months following the runway showings. Again this is an unwritten rule, but I believe in it wholeheartedly.

My mission is to try and inspire readers to pull trends from the runways into their homes sooner than the six-to-twelve–month timeframe. On my blog and soon-to-launch new Web site I take looks from the latest runways and pair them with their closest match in home decor, encouraging readers to dress their homes as they would dress themselves.

Occasionally I will take a look at home decor that inspires me and aim to find that room’s match in fashion. This poses the real question: can we dress ourselves as we dress our homes? No surprise here–I believe we can. But you can decide by looking at these two New England Home featured rooms paired with their match in fashion.

And, yes, I was feeling the New England Home magazine blues–the blues were inspiring me and I wanted to see what they would look like in my closet!
