The name says it all with this FLOW flatware, available through Jia Moderne at the Boston Design Center. Each piece looks as if it were made from mercury, or molten metal. Even with their unique, organic and asymmetrical shape, the pieces still feel balanced and steady in your hand. It’s a modern twist on a classic style (no pun intended). I find it’s the small details, like flatware, that catch me by surprise and stay with me.

Is there such a thing as too many wooden bowls? I’ve been told that I need to stop collecting them, but thanks to Diane von Furstenberg and her new home line for Bloomingdale’s, that may be impossible. The DVF tabletop collection includes several wooden serving pieces that simply can’t be ignored, including this beautiful mango wood bowl embellished with a rich vein of gold leaf.

I’ve recently been taken by Lakeville, Connecticut, artist John Scofield‘s new series of paintings, which I not long ago blogged about here, but to me his Folding Music Stand will forever be a classic. He still takes orders for this clean, elegant, functional piece, which can be seen in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and in the houses of some lucky private collectors too.
