Design in Depth: Happy Thanksgiving

Tomorrow is my favorite holiday. An odd choice? Perhaps, but any holiday that offers my favorite things—food, sports and family—on one day is perfect in my book. Add to that that it falls on a Thursday, giving us a mid-week day off. While the focus is typically on the food, let us turn for a moment to the tablescape. Particularly, how some New Englanders just really know how to do it well.
Our resident stylist Karin Lidbeck Brent is the queen of holiday decor, including Turkey Day. I’ve often browsed her web portfolio and blog for ideas for my own table. Berries and corn bound together, glittered gourds and butternut squash as a vase? She’s done it all.

Stylist and designer Amy Beth Cupp Dragoo, or ABCD Designs also has a host of ideas and images on her blog. Look for her house in our winter edition of New England Home Connecticut.

In a recent post she even started with the decor at the front door.

Leave it to the grande dame of the tablescape, Connecticut-resident Carolyne Roehm though to wow us all with her decor. Her recent post on some of her favorite Thanksgiving decorations left me feeling like I just haven’t been trying hard enough.

I think this year I’ll cut myself some slack and take a few tips from our New England Home managing editor Kaitlin Madden. She gave some great decorating tips that take the guesswork out of making pretty for the holiday. Click here to see some of her ideas.
Happy Thanksgiving!
