Design in Depth: Gorgeous Furniture in Greenwich

For years the most extraordinary resource has been hiding right under my nose. It’s been there since 1929 and I never knew it, although a number of designers-in-the-know have told me that, for them, it’s a go-to resource. I’m talking about Decorative Crafts in Greenwich, a showroom full of beautiful furniture and lighting mostly made in Italy. For eighty-five years the family-owned business has had designs crafted by artisans. It’s owned and run by Jeff Cohn, whose grandfather started the business, and Jeff’s son Matt, who recently joined the family enterprise.

As I toured the showroom recently, I recognized a few of the pieces—such as a silver leaf table and a fluted cabinet—as items I’d seen in magazines. I’m sure if you didn’t realize it before, you’ll know now that this to-the-trade secret has a home in our own backyard.
