Design in Depth: Draperies Make the Space

I believe in draperies more for decoration than I do for warmth or privacy. Let’s face it, like people, windows don’t always look good naked. They need a little covering up to make them look more appealing and inviting and to make a room look complete.
Here are some great examples of how to finish a room well with the right touch of fabric.
Some people think bathroom draperies that extend to the floor are just too fussy, but in this master bath pour monsieur by interior designer Cindy Rinfret plaid panels over blinds take a bath from simple to dramatic.

I’m fascinated how these white draperies are the same color as the walls and ceiling, yet add such an important touch to this particular room by interior designer Rod Mickley. By adding visual warmth and texture they’re pulling double duty.

Blue silk panels add a touch of glamour to this apartment designed by Rachel Reider.

Sometimes fabric doesn’t necessarily have to be on windows. Here it’s used to visually divide rooms in a house designed by Maryann Thompson.

Why not use them to pump up the color intensity of a room as Rachel Reider has here in this dining room?

As easily as they add color they can add modernity. In this room by Cindy Rinfret the geometric patterned drapery fabric adds a little contemporary flair to an otherwise traditional setting.

Don’t be afraid to be bold as in these two examples by Wendy Valliere of Seldom Scene Interiors and this last living room by Heather Vaughan of Heather Vaughan Designs. They make a great statement!
