Tiffany LeBlanc: Simple Holiday Decorating

As a designer, I’m inspired by a multitude of things, whether it is a stay at a boutique hotel, a walk on a farm or a visit to a museum. I enjoy using a warm color palette that reflects materials found in nature, especially at this time of year. With Thanksgiving behind us, thoughts now turn to the winter holidays. Whether you’ll be entertaining or just enjoying downtime with family, here are some techniques that will help you to embrace the season while adding a bit of winter wonderland flair and holiday cheer to your home:

Update room accessories with a cozy palette by adding plaid or nubby-textured pillows. Incorporate an overlay rug into a space or layer in a hide rug for added texture and interest.

Don’t be afraid to be unexpected. Purchase small Christmas trees for the kitchen, the den or to flank a bay window. This way, you can enjoy them throughout your home.

Have a bust form? Make it festive! Enhance the decorations you already have throughout your home instead of swapping them out for all holiday pieces. Be playful and create a soft wreath crown or layer in feathers, greenery and berries.

Create a tablescape with non-precious branches from the backyard and add lots of candlelight for a romantic, cozy feeling.

Serve hot totties when entertaining – your house will smell like the season and bring out a festive atmosphere with hints of rich clove, cinnamon and spices.

Have bookcases? Scatter small tea light candles to add sparkle to the room when having a party. Fill mason jars with Epsom salts for a winter wonderland look.

Create a computer free zone in your house and let the holiday spirit take over. More socializing and less screen time will allow for increased quality time without interruptions. The best gift you can give this holiday season is your time and attention.
