Ally Coulter: Warm Thoughts
January 15, 2014
A truly classic New England summer. This is what you will find at Radiance, a home in the Newport Beach Club community, set in stunning Newport, Rhode Island. The design is a modern interpretation of quintessential Newport. Through collaboration with Ralph Lauren, Radiance embraces beach-style living in an elegant, refined, and glamorous manner while maintaining a warm, inviting, and luxuriously cozy feel.
Color, flow, form, light, and texture are all essential to this particular design. I reflected on my personal experiences living in this area. Fresh air and gentle breezes evoked linen drapes billowing in the wind. A palette of soft blues, grays, and sand tones was inspired by the outdoor environment. We added a mixture of linens, a little silk for luxury, and some cashmere for comfort. We also integrated seagrass rugs throughout the home and used silk rugs in the master suites and cotton dhurries in the dining room, which opens up to a sprawling front porch. I wanted the homeowner to be able to experience the beauty of their natural surroundings at all times. Newport has one of the most incredible and dramatic seascapes in our country and the goal was to embrace that charm and compliment it in a harmonious manner.
After taking all this into consideration, I worked very closely with Todd Henderson of Ralph Lauren Home to capture a very stylized interior that showcased sophisticated furniture and lighting. I then worked to seamlessly integrate Ally Coulter Design products, which can be found at Niedermaier in NYC, with classic Ralph Lauren pieces. Ottomans, beds, carpet, draperies and more were a perfect complement to their timeless counterparts.
You instantly feel a sense of harmony when you walk into the home. This house is filled with refinement, and there is a great flow throughout each room, and also a great comfort. Simplification is a luxury right now in our chaotic lives, and Radiance was created to be the ultimate (and stylish) retreat, as all homes should be.
