A Charming Country Potting Shed

Interior designer Grace Rosenstein of Atelier Roan could think of innumerable reasons why she needed a potting shed to cap her newly installed Westport cutting and vegetable garden, but few other sheds are asked to provide space to spend nature-focused quality time with a three-year-old. That’s why the shed’s floor plan has a mini potting bench not far from mom’s pine version on wheels. Beyond bonding with her little sprout, Rosenstein is all about continuity and details. Therefore, the shed’s exterior has the same Cape Cod-style shingles as the main house, the paint color is Farrow & Ball Mizzle, tools are hung from Shaker-style pegs, and the sink features an articulating pot filler from Waterworks. Practicality also comes into play. To conserve space, the bench rolls out of the way when Rosenstein entertains in the garden. The message is clear: indoors or out, beautiful and thoughtful design grows on you.
