Paula Daher: Reflecting Back on Maison & Objet and Deco Off
March 5, 2015
Milan has been buzzing with fashion week, but I had my design fix at the end of January at Maison & Objet and Deco Off. These shows are the interior design community’s equivalent of the Paris, New York, and Milan fashion shows. Anna Wintour may not have been sitting in the front row of these shows, but they were just as exciting!
Deco Off is a fair that focused on luxury textile manufacturers and Maison & Objet is more expansive delving into all aspects of design. The events are chock full of lectures, exhibitions, parties, and small shows by luxury manufacturers. I also found plenty of design inspiration from Paris shops, museums, and architecture. Here are just a few of the endless photos I snapped on my phone while in Paris.
I absolutely loved seeing the latest from Jim Thompson Fabrics known for their luxurious Thai silks. The show was at the beautiful home of the company’s owner Jim Booth.
deGournay is known for their exquisite hand painted wall coverings. Here is their latest design in an unexpected blue. Love it.
French fabric manufacturer Nobilis wowed the crowd at the show in their atelier.
On the Left Bank the streets were decorated with fabric lampshades from the different fabric houses. One night there was a large street fair with cocktail parties in all the showrooms.
This painting was one of the most moving paintings at the Picasso Museum. The colors, the delicate blending of color for the background, I was transfixed.
Flowers in Paris are incredibly chic. Here are some displayed at the Mandarin Hotel.
This window at Notre Dame Cathedral has me thinking of ways I can interpret this as tile design.
