What’s Cooking in the Kitchen? Color!

While I get a peek of all the projects featured in the magazine, I really donât have a feel for how the stories are all going to pull together until the issue arrives at our office. When the postman delivers the first box of magazines hot off the press it feels a bit like Christmas morning. We all stop what we are doing and see how our work translated to the page. The recent New England Home November-December issue was particularly rich with unique design, and nowhere was this more evident than in the featured kitchens. Two of the kitchens sported pretty green painted cabinetry, and a charming butlerâs pantry was dressed in a bright color as well. Is this a trendâor merely a coincidence? New Englanders are fiercely loyal to their white kitchens, but perhaps weâre ready for something a bit different?
The beautiful green in this Vermont kitchen is described by designer Tiffany Eastman as âa cross between Kelly Green and Vermont Greenâclassic and timeless yet unexpected. Thereâs nothing about it that is run-of-the-mill, and it inspired the feeling, practicality, and timelessness of the rest of the decor.â
This country kitchen in a Maine retreat has soft green cabinet bases tempered with white upper cabinets. The two-tone look is a great way to bring some color to the kitchen without overwhelming.
The kitchen of this classic home is white, but things get a little crazy with this turqouise butlerâs pantry!
Red is not for the feint-hearted, but for those willing to take the risk. Here red and metal cabinetry contrast to many shades of gray, including the sleek stainless-steel backsplash.
