These porcelain cups are a charming part of the appealing collection tableware RISD grad Asya Palatova creates at Gleena, her Pawtucket, Rhode Island studio. Gleena means âclayâ in Palatovaâs native Russia, and her designs are inspired by the childhood summers she spent at her familyâs country house outside St. Petersburg.
Each at just two inches high and a little more than three inches in diameter, the âwee tea cupâ fits snugly into the palm of the hand. The letters are stamped into the porcelain with vintage metal type, and the corresponding vintage animal illustration is permanently fired onto the dishwasher-safe cup.

Architect Mark Hutker recently clued me in about an unexpected talent to be found on Marthaâs Vineyard. Bob Avakian is best known to people in our industry at the head of Vineyard Construction Services in Edgartown. Wearing that hat, he has been instrumental in the creation of some of the islandâs most beautiful homes.
It turns out, though, that in the dark of night (and sometimes in the subtle glow of dawn) Bob has been pursuing a different interest: photography. Check out some of his long-exposure images at Bob Avakian Photography and get a hauntingly new view of the Vineyard.
