Design in Depth: The Before and After Show

Last week I participated in the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center’s Digital Day.
In the morning I was included on a panel moderated by Domino magazine publisher Beth Brenner. Two of my favorite design bloggers, Jennifer Boles who writes The Peak of Chic and Ronda Carman from All the Best Blog, participated with me as we answered questions about our own blogs and the blogging future.
That afternoon, after listening to Jeffrey Alan Marks and Suzanne Kasler talk with Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles editor Elizabeth Ralls, I spoke to the more than 200 attendees about styling their work for photo shoots.
In my styling talk I taught about many of the same disciplines we use when shooting a house for New England Home. I shared numerous “before” shots that corresponded to the “afters” that have appeared in the magazine. It’s always fun to see the unstyled, unlit, unfocused scouting shots versus the finished product. Here are a few of the before and afters that I included in my talk.
It’s amazing what happens when you combine a professional photographer with a few styling touches. The results are always magazine-worthy.
