Since the days when I made a beeline for the old brown suitcase stuffed with costume jewelry that my Aunt Lee kept under her bed—I never tired of hunting for this “buried treasure”—I have been unabashedly in love with all that glitters. So, it is no surprise that nothing thrills me more than this recently discovered vintage chandelier from Lobmeyr. I have to admit—it rivals anything in Aunt Lee’s magical cache.

Boston-based publicist and Daily Basics contributor Sandra Goroff has long promoted the work of artists, writers, and artist-writers such as Roger Tory Peterson, Maurice Sendak, and Chris Van Allsburg. Now she has entered the public creative arena herself, with the appearance from Lorimer Press of Solitary Soul, a volume of her typically quiet, reflective photographs. (This new direction may not exactly surprise some of Goroff’s acquaintances, long accustomed to receiving images as Facebook updates—and, in fact, it’s not really all that new, considering her years of practice and study with Martha’s Vineyard photographer Alison Shaw and at the Maine Media Workshops—but it’s good to see the work getting out into the world.) Goroff is also now represented by Walker Cunningham Fine Art in Sudbury, Mass. Congratulations, Sandra!
