Becky Brackett: The Best Throws for Fall
September 24, 2013
As the nights get cooler here in Boston, we all look to cozy-up. My favorite way to keep warm is with a heavy blanket from my every-growing collection. This functional item is one that can easily be assimilated into your seasonal decor. A throw looks right at home casually draped over a chair or neatly folded in a stack. They’re also great to use at fall parties. A few years back at a Halloween dinner get together, we had guests each take a wool blanket for extra warmth so we could sip our corn chowder on the patio under a string of lights. Don’t be afraid to get creative!
A classic choice! These blankets have been in production since 1780 and their quality is unmatched. Heavy, durable, and 100 percent wool, a Hudson’s Bay will keep you warm all winter. Growing up, my parents put them at the ends of our beds on especially cold nights.
Brahm’s Mount is another beautiful option. Their throw is a little more soft and snuggly than a Hudson’s Bay, but still thick. I love the herringbone pattern and the fact that it comes in so many different colors. If you can’t wait to have one shipped to you, you can pick one up locally at Hudson.
If you’d prefer trendy over timeless, this ombre throw from West Elm has got you covered. Their blankets are very reasonably priced, and this one is said to be super soft. It’s on sale now, so don’t wait to buy!
Personally, I can’t resist plaid, and Pendleton has the best variety of different patterns and colors to choose from. I could see myself using this red lambswool throw all the way through to Christmas. Pendleton is a family owned business that’s been in operation for over 150 years, making it a classic choice, just like Hudson’s Bay.
No list of throws is complete without Hermes! The Avalon, which displays the signature “H” is part wool and part cashmere. It’s an investment, but hopefully one you’ll use for life. I would go for the ecru/camel color combo. A girl can dream, right?
