Editor’s Miscellany: 5 Under 40 Preview—The Women

Two weeks ago I proudly shared some of the work of our first two 5 Under 40 award winners for 2012, alphabetically speaking–who also happened to be the two males honored this year. Now it’s time for the women to show their stuff. Behold: an assortment of stylish productions that make these three young ladies you’ll want to keep an eye on.

Amy Aidinis Hirsch, interiors
Head of Amy Aidinis Hirsch Interior Design in Greenwich, Connecticut, since 2007, Amy began forging her design skills and sophisticated eye through studies at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, honing them further with stints at a number of top-ranked design firms such as Rinfret, Ltd.

Elizabeth Stiving-Nichols, interiors & furniture
A flair for visual merchandising discovered during a summer job as a shop clerk led Liz Stiving-Nichols first to Chicago’s Harrington Institute of Interior Design, and then to the interiors department of acclaimed Hutker Architects on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard. These days Liz is the creative force behind Martha’s Vineyard Interior Design, Martha’s Vineyard Furniture Co. and the Vineyard Haven home boutique, Bespoke Abode.

Kelly Taylor, interiors
One of the coolest and greenest buildings in Providence is home to Kelly Taylor Interior Design–not surprising given that Kelly was involved in its creation. Already LEED certified, she is also undertaking the master of design studies in sustainable design program at the Boston Architectural College. All of this reflects her commitment to creating environments that will fulfill needs, conserve resources and please the senses.

We expect all five of our winners to be making design news far into the future. But you can help us celebrate them now. Come show your support for the next generation of great design while rubbing shoulders with the cream of New England’s residential design world, tossing back a few of our special designer cocktails and munching on delicious tidbits from Davio’s. The 5 Under 40 awards celebration for 2012 is only two weeks away, on Thursday, September 13, at The Galleria at 333 Stuart Street, in Boston’s Park Square. (Hint: don’t wait too long to buy tickets.)

And starting tomorrow, you’ll be able to pre-bid on the gorgeous custom rugs our 2012 award winners have produced in conjunction with Landry & Arcari Oriental Rugs and Carpeting. All five creations will be auctioned off during the September 13 party, with proceeds to benefit Barakat, a Cambridge, Massachusetts–based charity providing educational opportunities to women and children in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
