In my Sneak Peeks post this week I showed an outtake from our upcoming July/August 2012 Elements section, a tramp art frame from Clifford A. Wallach. While browsing around his website I stumbled upon one of the most unique pieces of art I have ever seen. This model church is as detailed and beautiful as any piece of tramp art in the world. It truly belongs in a museum–not only because of its beauty, but also because of its amazing story. The mastery is truly in the details, from the linoleum tile floor to the fully decorated church interior. It’s amazing a piece like this is for sale, but at $14,500 this is exactly the sort of thing my wife would divorce me for buying…

Propping is one of the most fun parts of styling for a photo shoot. Choosing a couple of just-right pieces can make all the difference in creating a memorable magazine image. Here’s a sneak peek at two vases I picked up at Lekker in Boston’s South End, that I thought would mimic the beautiful oak trees outside this home’s huge glass windows. This past Monday Kaitlin Madden posted here about “seasonal swaps,†quick and easy ways to tailor your living style to the time of year and liven up your spaces with color. That got me thinking about how to inject a few hits of chromatic fun into my own apartment. On my list of covetable items might be this voluptuous emerald glass vase from Terrain, Westport’s new nursery/café/home design shop. Eighteen inches high, it would be perfect holding an elegantly gnarled, leafy branch and tucked into the corner of my back deck–don’t you think?
