Designer Snapshot: Beverly Rivkind on Rugs
July 20, 2011
By Paula M. Bodah
Beverly Rivkind turned her attention to the outdoors for her choices for great pool and patio furniture and accessories in our July/August issue.
With autumn on the horizon, the Norwell, Massachusetts, designer is thinking indoor thoughts again. She shares a recent discovery, a line of wool Berber rugs from the Atlanta, Georgia–based Barrier Island. “I’m crazy about them!†Beverly says. “I’m about to order a runner for a client’s front entry foyer. They very durable and can go in high-traffic areas.â€
The rugs, hand-loomed in India, can be ordered in custom colors and patterns. These are some of Beverly’s favorites.
This pattern, Isle (Squares), is the one Beverly plans to use in her client’s foyer.

“Border and Trellis would be wonderful in a bedroom or living room,†Beverly says.
“The Suzy pattern in navy and white would make a great focus point in a kitchen or breakfast room. In a pastel or neutral beige it would make a great anchor for a living room.â€
“The stripe collection offers so many variations and colors it’s hard to choose. Wide stripes, thin stripes and combinations–pick one of their designs or create your own color scheme.†Shown here, Nantucket and Newport.
