Sneak Peek: Inside Wendy Valliere’s Stowe Home
February 10, 2011
In the upcoming issue of New England Home we’ll be featuring the home of designer Wendy Valliere from Stowe Vermont. I always love seeing designers’ homes because it shows a true representation of their style, unencumbered by a client’s taste and timeline. Designers often take their time to turn their home into a mirror of themselves and their vision.
What makes Wendy Valliere’s home exceptional is just how articulate her sense of style has become. As dense and full and layered as every room is, there is not one piece that seems out of place. When I hear designers talk, they often champion their ability to edit a design down to its basic elements. I would argue that Valliere’s rooms–with their abundant color and pattern–could not be edited down further. Anything less, anything different, and they would look confused. It is her keen eye and bravery that let her take separate patterns and pieces and meld them together seamlessly.

Who else could take graphic curtains–each a different pattern, with a cottage-style valance and toile wallpaper–and make it work?
