Linda Holt: Fall Home Accessory Trends

Most of us want our home to look current and on trend, but we also don’t want it to be so trendy that we feel forced to redecorate every few years when a particular trend has passed. My design philosophy has always been to keep the major purchases such as large furniture and fixed elements classic and timeless; while incorporating today’s trends in smaller purchases such as lamps, pillows, mirrors, and decorative accessories. That way, when a particular trend has passed, the accessories can easily be swapped out for the next hot new look.

As we head into fall here are three of the hottest trends along with locally sourced accessories that are a fun way to incorporate that trend.

Geometrics have been popular for awhile now and show no signs of fading in popularity. They seem to be on everything from fabric to coffee mugs. Look for patterns such as Greek key, chevron , honeycomb, diamonds, circles and squares.

Nature/natural elements. It appears as if Designers have gone back to science class because they have embraced the natural world and all the wonderful curiosities it holds. Raw wood, gemstones, antlers, minerals, butterflies, shells, terrariums, and natural curiosities are all trending for fall.

Artisan metal work: Whether hammered, soldered or forged, artisan metal work has surged in popularity. Look for gold, copper, nickel, iron and also for the return of brass.
