Reproduction of the Porter Garden Telescope.
Firm Profile
Telescopes of Vermont has reintroduced the Porter Garden
Telescope, a bronze art nouveau garden installation that is both a
sculpture and an excellent reflecting telescope. As the optics are
easily removed when not in use, the fluid botanical design graces
a setting year ’round, in all weather.
Designed by Russell Porter, a contributor to the 200-inch telescope
at Palomar, the botanical bronze piece has found a place in
the Smithsonian. Its clever design also embraces a sundial.
Included is a marble pedestal and a mahogany box for the optics.
Manufactured and machined entirely in New England, each unit
is the fruit of more than 300 hours of handwork executed by
skilled craftsmen. The Garden Telescope is limited in quantity
and unlike any other telescope ever designed. As such, it makes
a dramatic and unique statement for a discerning clientèle.
