The “design” of a space should never compromise a client’s ability to live their life in their own home. We feel each project has something new to teach and we try to incorporate that into our constantly growing body of knowledge—if you believe you know it all, then your design becomes stale and formulaic. Our work is constantly evolving. -Scarborough-Phillips
Firm Profile
Scarborough-Phillips was formed by Jessie Dell and Tricia Hogue in 1988, and now has offices in both Rhode Island and Sarasota, Florida. The designers start with a plan, but always leave room for the unexpected. Their approachable style focuses on being attuned to client needs and establishing an on-going dialogue that helps them understand how their clients live and work. Almost exclusively involved in large residential projects, the pair pride themselves on their ability to collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, and tradespeople. Their goal is to create spaces that work—both functionally and aesthetically. Leaving room for serendipity—and realizing inspiration can come from anywhere—keeps their work exciting.
Specialties
Scarborough-Phillips works in a wide range of architectural styles—from 18th century homes to Shingle Style, Craftsman, and Contemporary. Their work, which includes projects all over the northeast and in Florida, has been published in national and regional magazines. The duo often plays a significant role in developing the interior architectural details and have frequently designed custom furniture when the perfect piece cannot be found. They create designs uniquely suited to each client’s individual needs and tastes.
